You often hear the following statements: 'if you have talent, all you have to do is develop it', '80% of employees are not in the right place' and 'there is a special gene for sales or leadership'.
Let's take a closer look at these statements because they are untrue.
Statement 1) If you have talent all you have to do is develop it: If a professional performs well it is because the professional has practiced and worked hard, often with colleagues and clients. In this way, you see that a person's ambition drives him/her to work well together and perform better. Setting career goals plays an important role in this, as does having perseverance and being able to delay enjoyment.
Statement 2) 80% of employees are not in the right place : Research has shown that the manager's leadership style often causes many employees to be reluctant to work in their place, but really enjoy their work and want to continue with it. So you can't attribute employees' work ethic to themselves alone, the work environment plays a big role in their development. Consider the amount of freedom they have or the amount of direction and support they receive when they need it.
Excerpt 3) There is a special gene for sales or leadership: Every human has about 20,500 genes, each consisting of thousands of basepairs. The genes make proteins that affect how a neuron functions. Since we have about 60 trillion neurons in which these genes are expressed, the step from gene to leadership is a bridge too far. In short, making a connection between a gene and leadership is complete nonsense.
